Where to Get 3aaa Metal Air Cylinders Hydrostatically Tested Near Orlando Fl

Do you have fire extinguishers, SCUBA tanks, or other high-pressure cylinders at your Orlando facility? It's important to make sure these portable canisters perform reliably, even under the most punishing circumstances. Unanticipated pressure spikes are always possible, and compromised cylinders could experience hazardous leaks or even catastrophic failure.

For your peace of mind, and to remain code compliant, you need to hydrostatically test your equipment and make sure it can handle any pressure it might experience. United Fire Protection is a DOT-authorized hydrostatic cylinder retesting facility located in Orlando. This means we are fully equipped to test all your high-pressure cylinders, from fire extinguishers to SCUBA tanks to oxygen canisters.  Please note, we test products that have already been approved by the DOT, but not new products for DOT approval.

If you're located in the Orlando metro area and need hydrostatic testing for your high-pressure cylinders, please call United Fire Protection at 407-218-8348 today.

What is Hydrostatic Testing?

The purpose of a hydrostatic or hydro-test is to ensure the structural integrity of a gas cylinder or other pressure vessel. We perform this test using the standard water jacket method. Here's what this entails:

  • Empty the contents of the canister and remove the valve. Check for corrosion, pitting, or other problems with the valve threads and interior of the cylinder.
  • Place the cylinder in a steel test chamber and fill the chamber with water at a normal pressure level.
  • Fill the canister with water and pressurize it in accordance with life and safety codes, which is often to about 150% of the canister's designated pressure limit.
  • Hold the pressure for a predetermined amount of time and visually inspected for any leaks or unacceptable expansion of the cylinder walls.
  • Return the pressure to normal. If the cylinder passes the test, recharge it and place it back in service. If the cylinder fails the test, replace it.

Our Hydrostatic Testing Services

The United Fire Protection hydro-test facility is equipped to test many different types of high-pressure cylinders.

Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic Testing

Visually inspecting a fire extinguisher is not enough to ensure it will operate safely or at all when you need it. Over time, workplace conditions and normal handling can impair a canister's structural integrity, causing it to malfunction or burst unexpectedly. Hydro-testing helps to prevent this.

Carbon dioxide and other types of fire extinguishers must be hydrostatically tested every five years. Dry chemical and Halon fire extinguishers require testing every 12 years. The test exposes the cylinder, shell, and hose assembly to high pressures, ensuring your extinguishers are safe and compliant with Florida Fire Prevention Code.

SCUBA Tank Hydrostatic Testing

The DOT requires hydrostatic testing for SCUBA tank cylinders every five years to detect leaks and flaws that could endanger the user's life. Our services give you peace of mind when using SCUBA tanks to go diving.

High-Pressure Gas Cylinder Hydrostatic Testing

Various high-pressure cylinders are required to undergo hydrostatic testing every five to 10 years, depending on the gases they store. Our fully equipped test facility is capable of pressurizing cylinders up to 10,000 psi. Some of the most common bottled gases we test include nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hydrostatic testing is used to detect leaks and assess the strength of vessels where pressure is involved. Items like scuba cylinders, gas cylinders, and fire extinguishers need regular hydrostatic testing.

Mandated by the U.S. Departments of Transportation, scuba tank cylinders are required to undergo high-pressure, hydrostatic testing every five years for the inspection of leaks and flaws.

United Fire Protection is an authorized DOT hydrostatic cylinder retesting facility.

High-pressure gas cylinders, or bottled gases, are required to undergo visual and hydrostatic testing every five to 10 years, depending on the gas. United Fire Protection can pressurize gas cylinders up to 10,000 psi and some of the most common cylinders that we test are nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide.
